Beautiful, isn’t it? The tropical Alocasia is naturally a very strong, compact plant that’s used to humid, warm conditions. Luckily, you don’t need to recreate the tropics at home. If you follow these simple tips, your Alocasia will thrive for a long time!

Alocasias love soft morning or evening light. The best spot is a windowsill facing east or west. If your window gets strong midday sun, place your Alocasia a bit further away—on a dresser or side table, for example. Notice your Alocasia leaning in one direction? Simply rotate it weekly so all sides can enjoy the light.

And watering? Do it in moderation. Keep the soil slightly moist, but don’t let your Alocasia sit in water. As an exotic plant, it prefers lukewarm water, especially during warmer periods. You can also mist the leaves now and then—this helps keep pests away, too. If the leaves start dripping water on their own, that’s a sign your plant is getting too much water.
